Antonio Conte actually has plans for Cesc FabregasJens Lehmann reckons Petr Cech is one of the best in his position

Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann believes Petr Cech is one among the best players in the goalkeeping position due to his calming presence behind the backline.

The former Czech international first tested Premier League football with Chelsea in 2004 where he helped them lift the Premier League title for the first time. He has since moved on to Arsenal after more than a decade of service and Lehmann feels that the 35-year-old remains a valuable asset for the north London club.

Lehmann said, via Squawka:“I’ve always rated him as one of the best goalkeepers ever. It’s good to see that he’s doing even better this season than last season. He’s calm so he calms people down, he’s got a presence. He’s a fantastic guy and a big, big benefit and asset for Arsenal now. He’s credible in what he says and what he does.”

Cech initially struggled in the Gunners shirt during the previous campaign with a blunder against former club Chelsea leading to widespread criticism from the club’s faithful. However, he produced some key performances in the backend of the season which pushed the Gunners towards touching distance of the Champions League places.

Eventually, Arsene Wenger’s side team had to settle for a fifth-place finish behind Liverpool by a solitary point, but this has not dented the club’s transfer ambitions for the summer.

Both Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina are being tipped to leave the Emirates during the summer transfer window, and this is likely to add more pressure on Petr Cech, who could have an inexperienced deputy in Emiliano Martinez to rely upon for the new season. Cech landed his first silverware (FA Cup) with Arsenal last term, and he will now be eyeing for the bigger prize following an excellent league run in the dying stages of last season. Arsenal lost just once in their last 10 outings following the switch to the 3-4-2-1 formation.
