Aubameyang acknowledges he prefers a two-striker partnership

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has acknowledged that he prefers to play alongside Alexandre Lacazette upfront, though he would not want to anger the manager by stating his opinion. The Gabon international has formed an excellent bond with Lacazette during his time at the club and the duo have contributed 38 goals together during the ongoing campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Aubameyang admitted that he likes to work together with Lacazette in the frontline, but he can’t change the perspective of the head coach, he said: “Everybody knows that I like to play with Laca because we have a great partnership. Sometimes one plays, the other is on the bench. It’s like that. You have to fight for the team. I think you know that I like to play with two strikers but I don’t want to say it because the coach will be maybe a bit angry.”

“Aubameyang started as the lone striker during the recent away trip to Watford“ and he managed to make the difference with a bizarre goal intercepting Ben Foster’s clearance. The 1-0 victory has ensured that the Gunners have propelled to the fourth “position on the table“ and they have the destiny in their own hands to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Meanwhile, the Gunners could also qualify for the elite competition by winning the Europa League this term. They are currently holding a 2-0 advantage over Napoli after the first leg of the quarter-final and should be favourites to reach the last four with the return leg at the Stadio San Paolo. Gunners boss Unai Emery decided to pair Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette together during the reverse fixture and it remains to be seen whether the same approach is deployed on the road. Lacazette was left on the bench for the recent away trip to Watford.
