CECH SLAMS BIZARRE COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Chelsea legend Petr Cech has slammed the bizarre Covid-19 protocols that ensured that the Chelsea duo of Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell missed the final Group D clash between England and the Czech Republic. Petr Cech was at a loss on the protocols that forced Mount and Chilwell to sit out the final group game for the Three Lions.

Covid-19 protocols forced the Chelsea duo of Chilwell and Mount into self-isolation on the day of the match with the Czech Republic after they were deemed to have been in contact with club teammate Billy Gilmour who has since joined newly promoted Premier League team Norwich City on loan for the new season. The England duo of Chilwell and Mount were forced to self-isolate after Gilmour tested positive for Covid-19.

Petr Cech could not understand the decision to force the two Chelsea players into self-isolation as conveyed in his post on Instagram. He was unable to understand why the Chelsea players had to self-isolate when the entire Scotland squad shared the same space with Gilmour for long periods and were given the go ahead to play their final game against Croatia.

Mount and Chiwell spoke to Gilmour for 22 minutes when England and Scotland met in their second game in Group D at the Wembley Stadium and this was given as the reason for their self-isolation by Public Health England. Gilmour tested positive for Covid-19 shortly after his man-of-the-match performance for Scotland during the goalless draw with England. Mount played the Scotland game as well, while Chilwell was an unused substitute.

Without Mount and Chilwell, England defeated Czech Republic 1-0 thanks to the goal from Raheem Sterling in their final group game. England are now in the quarterfinals after the 2-0 win over old foes Germany in their last 16 clash on Tuesday.
