David Ospina Accepts Petr Cech Remains First Choice despite Competition

David Ospina is in danger of being the forgotten man at Arsenal, as manager Arsene Wenger has been utilising the Colombian only in the cup games.

Petr Cech continues to be the first choice for the club when it comes to the big games. Arsenal were aware of Cech’s interest in moving to the Emirates stadium only at a later stage after they had already brought in David Ospina from Nice. At 28 years of age, the Colombian is entering into the peak period for a goalkeeper. He would want to play a major role in the team, butOspina has been only given opportunities in the Champions League and other cup competitions.

In his first season,Ospina late 23 appearances in all competitions but this decreased to just 12 last season. It is highly unlikely the Colombian will make more than 20 appearances in all competitions this season. Petr Cech is undoubtedly the star and it is a situationOspina accepts wholeheartedly. When asked about the possibility of a transfer,Ospina claims that he wants to seize his opportunities at Arsenal rather than look for a move. The player is keen on fulfilling his contract with the London outfit. Cech moved to Arsenal last season and has made 41 appearances in all competitions.

"There have always been things (with other clubs). But my present is at Arsenal. I still have contract here. I want to establish myself here. There is a healthy competition with great goalkeepers and I will wait for my chance.I am happy. The team is in a good form and I am trying to seize my chances. My idea has always been to play but there is a healthy competition. We all want to play. I got a chance (against Ludogorets) and tried to take the most of it,” said Ospina.
