Frank Lampard demands more from the forward Chelsea players

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has admitted that the front players in the Blues squad should do more with the possession at hand. The Blues have been in poor form since the November international break and they have picked up just six points from the past seven Premier League matches.

As a result, there is a general frustration among the fans over the run of results and Lampard has acknowledged that the players need to find the cutting edge in the final third of the pitch, he told: "Players have to go one-on-one if you're an offensive player, play round the corner, mix up your game and break defensive lines because teams aren't stupid. They're well organised and you need to do more in an attacking sense. You cannot have 70 percent of possession and control, particularly the first half, and not do more, not hit better crosses, not hit better final passes, not get more clear chances at goal."

The Blues recently came up with a strong response in the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur where they picked up a 2-0 triumph. However, they could not replicate the performance against Southampton at Stamford Bridge and barely created any threat on goal for the entire 90 minutes where the visitors won by a 2-0 score.

With the result, the Blues find themselves with just a three-point advantage over the fifth-placed team for the final Champions League spot and that gap could reduce to two points, should Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Manchester City at home on Friday night. Chelsea are scheduled to face Arsenal on the road on Sunday and Lampard will be hoping for a strong response from his side, who have impressed on their travels. The west London giants have accumulated 18 points on the road compared to 14 on their home ground, where the pressure has been more of them.
