MENDY REVEALS HOW CHELSEA TRANSFER HAPPENED

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has revealed the influence that Petr Cech had in him joining the club last summer. Mendy talked about Petr Cech in exclusive chat with the UEFA website. According to him, Petr Cech played a big role in him leaving the French Ligue 1 last summer to experience Premier League football.

Cech and Mendy have a lot in common though the former has hung up his gloves. Cech is now the technical and performance director at Stamford Bridge.

Petr Cech signed for Chelsea in 2004. The retired Czech Republic national team goalkeeper joined the Blues from Rennes in the French Ligue 1. Mendy has been able to follow in the footsteps of Cech by leaving Rennes for Chelsea in the Premier League. The Senegalese shot stopper would be hoping to achieve all the things Cech did as one of the best goalkeepers in the history of the Premier League.

On his transfer to Chelsea, Mendy said Cech approved him with conviction that he wants only him and that played a big part in the Senegalese making the move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea paid over £20m to secure his signing from Rennes.

Mendy was instrumental for Chelsea during their Champions League title win last season as he kept nine clean sheets including one in the final. He became the first African goalkeeper in a Champions League final when he started for the Blues against Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Senegalese international shot stopper Mendy was a doubt for that Champions League final after he sustained a rib injury during the final league game of last season at Villa Park. He was able to shake the injury off to play his part in the 1-0 win. German international Kai Havertz was the hero for Chelsea as he got the all-important goal for his team.
