CECH PROVED RIGHT WITH MADRID TIE

Chelsea legend Petr Cech has been proved right after he predicted a difficult tie for his team on the back of the Champions League quarterfinal draw that pitted his team against Real Madrid. In a chat with the website of UEFA after the draw, Petr Cech said that it was a difficult tie for Chelsea as he pointed out that two-legged semifinal tie involving the two teams last season. Chelsea secured a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid away from home in the first leg before beating the La Liga club 2-0 at home in the second leg to seal a 3-1 aggregate victory thereby progressing into the Champions League final. The Premier League heavyweights went on to win the final to secure their second title thanks to the 1-0 win over English rivals Manchester City.

Petr Cech is the technical and performance advisor at Chelsea and the former Czech Republic shot stopper was correct with his prediction on the last eight tie with Real Madrid after the Spanish La Liga leaders produced an impressive away performance to take a 3-1 lead in the tie after the first leg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Cech told UEFA that the quarterfinal tie would be tough and that was what happened as Chelsea struggled to impose themselves on Real Madrid like they did last season. French football legend Zinedine Zidane was the Real Madrid manager last season before his resignation led to the appointment of former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti into the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu dugout. Ancelotti was able to mastermind an impressive win over the defending champions and his former team thanks in part to the brilliance of Karim Benzema who scored three goals during the game.
With the 3-1 win from the first leg, Real Madrid are in a fantastic position ahead of the second leg in Madrid on Tuesday night.
