Chelsea technical and performance director Petr Cech was a key player for the Czech Republic during his international career. Petr Cech played for the various age groups of his country starting from the u15 team in November 1997 before he went on to make his debut for the senior team in February 2002. The 38-year-old was instrumental to the first youth title in the history of Czech Republic football after his penalty shootout heroics against France at the 2002 u-21 European Championships. Petr Cech let in just one of the penalties during penalty shootout to lead his country to the title at the expense of France.


Some football stars featured in other teams after making the decision to end their respective football careers and Chelsea legend Petr Cech was one of those football stars. According to the Daily Star, Petr Cech and six other football stars tried their hands in other Sports when they ended their football careers. Petr Cech turned to Ice Hockey after his retirement from football at Arsenal. The Czech Republic football icon had already been offered the role of technical and performance director at Stamford Bridge before he decided to join National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) Division 2 team Guildford Phoenix as a goaltender. Petr Cech told The Athletic that he missed match days and that played a part in his decision to join the Ice Hockey team. He made this known in an interview with the media platform shortly after he made a crucial save in the shootout to help his team beat Swindon Wildcats 2.


Former Chelsea player Robert Huth has revealed how much of a skilled person his former teammate Petr Cech is when it comes to being a leader. The former defender said he always viewed Cech as a leader because of how cool, calm, and collected he was especially during moments when one would be expected to be panicking. The pair played together at Stamford Bridge for a couple of years and they enjoyed each other's company so well.

Huth was speaking in an interview with The Athletic where he made the comments, while also adding that the former Czech Republic number one would always preach and promote togetherness in the Blues' dressing room back then and that he also had the skill to relate with anyone.

Thiago Silva cannot understand Chelsea’s poor form

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has admitted that he is baffled by the poor form experienced by the club. The blues slumped to their worst run of the season after a 3-1 loss to Manchester City on Sunday. Petr Cech was one of the few ex-Arsenal players that backed Mikel Arteta publicly while the Arsenal manager was under serious pressure to save his job. Mikel Arteta had masterminded a poor run of seven league games without a win for Arsenal that saw the team drop into the bottom six places on the log and with a lot of work to do to catch up with the teams in the Champions League places.

Mikel Arteta received an unflinching public support from Petr Cech during his interview with TalkSports as he called on the Arsenal board and fans to show patience with Mikel Arteta despite losing eight of the first 14 league games of the new season. Petr Cech and Mikel Arteta shared the Arsenal dressing room for one season (2015/16 campaign) and the former was so certain that Arteta will turn things around. The Arsenal board and fans are better for it after listening to the advice of Petr Cech by not pulling the plug on Mikel Arteta as the Spaniard has been able to overcome the aforementioned slump in formto lead Arsenal to three straight wins in the league.


Chelsea legend Petr Cech has been ranked the best goalkeeper to play for the West London giants in the Premier League era. Petr Cech spent a hugely successful eleven years at Stamford Bridge before signing for London rivals Arsenal in a £10m deal in the summer of 2015. The Czech Republic football legend had joined Chelsea from Rennes in the French Ligue 1 in 2004 and he went on to win the Premier League title in his first two seasons at Chelsea.

Petr Cech was named the performance and technical director at Chelsea after his retirement almost two years ago and it was surprising to see his name in the Chelsea playing squad released earlier in the season. Cech recently turned out for the u-23s in the win over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League 2. The game was as recent as last month.


Petr Cech during his Chelsea career was known for having a no-nonsense policy against conceding errors that would end up leading to goals. But that may not have been the case after he made an appearance against the U23 team of Tottenham Hotspur.

Not to say that he went his entire career without committing any errors though, but he made sure it was at a very minimal rate. His two separate stints with rival London clubs Chelsea and Arsenal were not close in terms of achievements given that he spent more years and won more honors at Chelsea, but he still enjoyed a laudable spell at the Emirates.

He also played for the posh clubs of the English Premier League like Rennes, Chelsea, Arsenal, and others. He was the last resort of Chelsea from 2004 to 2015 where he played 333 matches for the team. He also represented his nation in every age-based team from the year 1997. His height was the added advantage for him including his skills. Thus he is still effective under the goal bar and can put the young goalkeepers into tough competition.
