CECH RANKED BEST CHELSEA GOALKEEPER

Chelsea legend Petr Cech has been ranked the best goalkeeper to play for the West London giants in the Premier League era. Petr Cech spent a hugely successful eleven years at Stamford Bridge before signing for London rivals Arsenal in a £10m deal in the summer of 2015. The Czech Republic football legend had joined Chelsea from Rennes in the French Ligue 1 in 2004 and he went on to win the Premier League title in his first two seasons at Chelsea.

Petr Cech was named the performance and technical director at Chelsea after his retirement almost two years ago and it was surprising to see his name in the Chelsea playing squad released earlier in the season. Cech recently turned out for the u-23s in the win over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League 2. The game was as recent as last month.

CECH COMMITS HUGE BLUNDER IN CHELSEA'S U23 CLASH WITH SPURS

Petr Cech during his Chelsea career was known for having a no-nonsense policy against conceding errors that would end up leading to goals. But that may not have been the case after he made an appearance against the U23 team of Tottenham Hotspur.

Not to say that he went his entire career without committing any errors though, but he made sure it was at a very minimal rate. His two separate stints with rival London clubs Chelsea and Arsenal were not close in terms of achievements given that he spent more years and won more honors at Chelsea, but he still enjoyed a laudable spell at the Emirates.

CECH RESPONSIBLE FOR MENDY TRANSFER

Chelsea legend Petr Cech has revealed how he was instrumental to the signing of brilliant shot stopper Edouard Mendy from Rennes in the French Ligue 1. The Blues made a first team goalkeeper signing for the first time in two years with the capture of the Senegalese international in the summer. The Blues paid £22m to secure his transfer and he has been able to provide stability to the goalkeeping department at Chelsea.


The West London giants had issues in the goalkeeping department until his arrival. With goalkeepers KepaArrizabalaga and Willy Caballero not at the level required, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard had to delve into the transfer market to provide a long-term solution to the problem.

CECH - MESSI COULDN'T SCORE ME FOR LONG

Peter Cech, Chelsea performance advisor and goalkeeper has recounted how he stopped Lionel Messi during past matches, saying that it took a long period before Lionel Messi could succeed in scoring against him.


Barcelona and Chelsea had engaged in a heated and robust rivalry from 2004 to 2012, facing each other ten times. Cech, who was the Chelsea goalkeeper for all the matches, managed to hold off all of Messi's attempts during that time.

The former Czech football star Petr Cech is still in good touch as he can still be the young goalkeepers of the team in tough competition. He joined Chelsea this season as a player cum technical adviser and has shown some awful skills in the ground during the practice session. He used to be one of the best goalkeepers of his time as he played for his nation Czech Republic till 2016 in 124 matches.


He also played for the posh clubs of the English Premier League like Rennes, Chelsea, Arsenal, and others. He was the last resort of Chelsea from 2004 to 2015 where he played 333 matches for the team. He also represented his nation in every age-based team from the year 1997. His height was the added advantage for him including his skills. Thus he is still effective under the goal bar and can put the young goalkeepers into tough competition.

Liverpool legend Steve McManaman has backed Chelsea’s pursuit of Thiago Silva. The Brazil international recently ended his association with Paris Saint-Germain after eight seasons and he has been tipped to join the Blues on a free transfer.


The move has come as a surprise for many with the west London side building up a young team under Frank Lampard but McManaman feels the move is worthy, considering football is played with the present in mind, he told BT Sport: "Football is all about the now. You can't plan about five, six or seven years because the manager might not even be there then. For the here and now he is an excellent defender."
